John McCain is down to just 110 days until Election Day; Barack Obama is on the cusp of being able to count down to his likely victory with just double digits. Before you know it, America will take a break from politics (or will they?) to turn their attentions to the Olympics. Thank you China. After a brief pause in August, the Democratic and Republican conventions will push the presidential election back into the spotlight. From Labor Day to Election Day, we Americans will witness a sprint to the finish as our two major Presidential candidates are joined in their nationwide campaign by two new Vice Presidential sidekicks. Holy Mackerel Batman!

Okay Frank Gaffney, you want your chance to soil your sheets, Leonidas-style, over the silent and perhaps at this point irreversible Islamofascist conquest of America? You don’t need to resort to fantasizing about Muslim sovereign fund managers putting a hex on their bond issues, or, I don’t know, doing a universal find and replace of “New York” for “London” in whatever Melanie Phillips wrote this week. You don’t need to make up anything at all. Because it turns out that the most cunningly disguised Islamofascist sleeper cell ever has just planted the bloody banner of the false prophet Mahound and his demonic minions in a courtroom a mere stone’s throw from the Capitol: (more…)

The Islamofascists can’t force America to submit to Islamofascism by military means, nor can they do it by strategic breeding (the latter only works in Europe). So we can probably breathe a sigh of relief since, hey, even as the new caliphate stretches from Khorasan to Portugal, it won’t be claiming any new world colonies any time soon. Right? Wrong. As Frank Gaffney explains, those endlessly clever Islamofascists have schemed a way to force God’s own country to heed the call of the minaret by conquering our financial markets: (more…)

Sen. John McCain finally threw Rev. John Hagee and Hagee’s endorsement under the bus when it was revealed by a number of sources, including Sam Stein at HuffPo, that Hagee sermonized in the 90s about Hitler as God’s glorious tool of righteousness (Stein has the audio, so one may listen for oneself): (more…)

Poor Karl at the “neo-libertarian” blog Protein Wisdom waxes indignant — nay, verily scandalized — about Glenn Greenwald’s superb job documenting the many millions of dollars flowing from telecoms to lobby (and even personally benefit) members of both parties in the U.S. Congress. Greenwald addresses the (sarcasm alert!) coincidental relationship between said expenditures on the one hand, and on the other, a congresscritter’s support for telecom amnesty in the matter of the telecoms’ violating the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act by joining with BushCo to secretly spy on Americans’ telephone and email communications without warrants.

Occasional commenter here, Chris in DC –who built a demand to start a blog with his incisive commentary at Greenwald’s site using the handle DCLaw1, and has now done so — gets it mostly right on what is wrong with the GOP’s election strategy, and what that party’s loyalists blindly or obstinately refuse to admit: (more…)

Entertainment! That is, watching the neocons whistling past the graveyard as Americans continue to reject their movement and the GOP (tho at least one Cornerite admits after a Dem won a traditionally Republican seat on Tuesday in Mississippi, that they and their party are “frakked.”) For example, “neo-libertarian” Jeff Goldstein sees fit to post a lengthy “analysis” of the New Left’s fascist tendencies, a perspective he leaps to via approving reference to Jonah Goldberg’s trenchant opus, Liberal Fascism. Is Goldstein really unaware that the New Left is in fact a geriatric ideology, and nearly obsolete? Goldstein also advances the notion that there is some significant connection between the 60s radicals and those who today — you know, 2008, not 1968 — identify as “progressives.”

Greetings to the readers of the Art of the Possible. Some of you may know me from the blog Freedom Democrats, an online community occupying the niche of libertarianism within the Democratic Party. For those readers who are encountering me for the first time, I have been an amateur activist in libertarianism, the Democratic Party, and blogging off and on for several years now. I am very thankful for the opportunity to blog here at the Art of the Possible and wanted to take advantage of the timing of Mona’s most recent blog post on this site’s purpose to introduce myself, and my views, more fully.

ABC News recently reported a lot of support for Obama (and some for Hilary) coming from our troops in Iraq. Neocon warmongers undergo neurological synapse disconnects with such news, so they must rhetorically destroy such “wrong” military opinions.

In an article this week for TNR entitled Legal Bondage, Jeffrey Rosin gives moral legislation in the US a clean bill of health, despite Justice Scalia’s alarmist dissent five years ago in Lawrence v. Texas warning that the majority’s decision to decriminalize sodomy would send the country down the “slippery slope” of unchecked moral degeneration: (more…)

As one of those penitents who came to initially support the invasion of the Iraq and now regards it as the most irresponsible political decision she’s ever made, I well appreciate my Unqualified Offerings’ host and co-blogger, Jim Henley’s, disdain for those who got it wrong, when he was dismissed as unSerious for opposing the mad venture. Jim posits an alternate universe in which he meets Kenneth Pollack, who inquires of Jim with regard to Jim’s having been right: “What the fuck was so special about you, anyway?” A few excerpts from Jim’s post, which ought to be read in its entirety: (more…)

When does a warmongering neocon — and documented liar about his pro-war enthusiams — wax all righteous about the plight of workers and the glory of unions? When he also implicitly (but with implausible deniability) longs for war against the country they live in. My emphasis: (more…)

Below I set forth my position as a non-conservative, Hayekian libertarian with recourse to excerpts from Hayek’s own rejection of conservatism. I further pointed out via an interview with the former publisher of National Review, William Rusher, that during the Cold War era libertarians and conservatives co-existed in the GOP, in a “fusionism” that was always tense.
