Sincerity is the Key - Once You Can Fake That, You’ve Got It Made
(posted by Jim Henley)
Philip Giraldi hears from his sources that Ron Suskind’s "revelation that the White House ordered the preparation of a forged letter linking Saddam Hussein to al-Qaeda and also to attempts made to obtain yellowcake uranium is correct but that a number of details are wrong." Tim F. at Balloon Juice thinks Suskind got played. If Giraldi is correct, the details Suskind got wrong are pretty major in terms of journalistic practice, and some of them (cream-colored stationery?) should have set off his bullshit detector. The combination of Giraldi and Tim sounds plausible to me.

After Dan Rather, anyone who comes forward with “revelations” about the current administration should have their stories triple and quadruple checked……

The single least plausible bit in the story is that anyone in the White House committed such a request to paper.
But presumably the sources are on tape saying what they said, so if they set him up they’ll be exposed as setting him up.

And, as someone at Emptywheel said, if the best counter-story they can come up with is that some other part of the administration ginned up the fake letter…

Bush is the worst president in American history. Bush facilitated the 9/11 attacks. Subsequently, Bush lied to Congress and the American people relative to the reasons for invading Iraq. Bush purposefully misled Congress and the American people. Then, Bush murdered more than 4,000 United States service members. And Bush wounded more than 30,000 United States service members. In torturing prisoners of war, Bush patently violated the Geneva Convention. Bush unlawfully wiretapped United States citizens. In using “signing statements” to challenge hundreds of laws passed by Congress, Bush violated the Constitution. Bush has ignored global warming. Bush is guilty of criminal negligence relative to the response to Hurricane Katrina. Bush disobeys our democratic values and Constitution. Bush is a disgrace to the United States.
Furthermore, Ron Suskind has revealed that Bush directed the forgery of a letter connecting Iraq to the 9/11 attacks. Bush is beyond help.
