The awful FISA bill with its awful provisions intact passes the Senate 69-28. Senator Obama, of course, voted for the awful FISA bill. Here’s an interesting tidbit that wasn’t pre-ordained: “Sen Hillary Clinton (D-NY) voted against the filibuster [of Sens. Dodd, Feingold, and Leahy] and then voted against the law a few moments later.” It’s bravery like that wut makes the PUMA cause worthwhile.
So a Democratic congress gutted the 4th Amendment not even a week after the anniversary of American independence. I propose a new federal holiday for the 9th of July, to kick off a new season of suspension of habeas corpus, due process, and all those other quaint legal niceties that have no place in a post-9/11 world. On the following 4th of July, we can have our freedoms restored for a banker’s week — the five days from the 4th to the 8th can be sort of like our Saturnalia. (Needless to say, we’ll retain our gun rights year-round, so fundamental liberty is still quite safe.)
No national holiday would be complete without a traditional dish. I suppose the Capitulation Day chicken is too obvious. Any ideas?
